FARPOINT FILMS HEADS TO CAMERA ON NEW SERIES, ICE VIKINGS

Series follows crews fishing on the frozen, unforgiving Lake Winnipeg

(WINNIPEG, MB) OCTOBER 28, 2019Farpoint Films announced today the start of production on their new series, ICE VIKINGS. The docu-series will be filmed solely in Manitoba with local cast and crew. Eight episodes are being produced with partners Viasat World and the series will be distributed by Beyond Distribution.

Ice Vikings takes viewers inside a world never before seen on television: Lake Winnipeg’s commercial ice fishing industry, where descendants of Icelandic Vikings race against time and weather to bring their catch to shore before the ice gives way.

These unique, brave women and men face blizzards, cracking ice and danger from every side as they use traditional ice fishing methods learned from their ancestors: Icelandic Vikings who settled near Lake Winnipeg more than 150 years ago.

“It’s wonderful that Farpoint gets to film this series solely in Manitoba,” said Farpoint Films executive producer, Kyle Bornais. “We are thrilled to be working with our international partners to bring this truly Canadian story to screens around the world.”

Ice Vikings is written by Chris Charney, directed by John Barnard, produced by Scott R. Leary and Chris Charney, executive produced by Kyle Bornais and Rob Hardy, with consulting show runner Cheryl Binning.

Ice fishing is one of the most dangerous professions in the world, in one of the most unpredictable work environments on the planet: Lake Winnipeg. With big money at stake (commercial fishing is a $25 million a year industry in Manitoba), and more than 700 people each year setting out on the ice every winter, these ice vikings put their life on the line for every fish and paycheck.
