Farpoint Films announces first-look producing deal with filmmaker Ryan Cooper

Farpoint Films announced today a multi-year first look producing deal with filmmaker Ryan Cooper’s Back to Space Productions.

Under the terms of deal, Farpoint will have a first look at all of Cooper’s new shows with the two companies already working together on many projects including Alter Boys - written and directed by Jonathan Lawrence and produced by Cooper for CBC Gem and going to camera later this month.

Farpoint has success with both scripted and unscripted projects, including most recently The Swearing Jar (premiering at TIFF 2022) and the third season of Ice Vikings released earlier this year. As well, Farpoint has many shows in the late stages in post-production that will be released shortly including: Vandits, Seeking Fire, Targeted for Murder and Sunshine Slayings.

“As Farpoint builds catalogue as both a producer and distributor we are really excited to be working with Ryan as he seems to have an unending slate of amazing projects that we look forward to bringing to viewers around the world,” said Kyle Bornais, president of Farpoint Films. “This deal came at a perfect time for the company having just invested heavily in the growth of Farpoint Distribution, we are very actively looking to increase our IP and Ryan’s slate does just that.”

Cooper's past projects include Freedom Road (NFB), When the Children Left (National Screen Institute – Canada), and Daybreak People (Bell MTS).

“This has come at a perfect time for my career as I continue to grow my experience as a producer and as a writer,” said Cooper. “Having a producing partner like Farpoint Films is incredibly exciting because it gives me the opportunity to learn much more than I would if I was on my own and also working with a bunch of amazing people that are encouraging me to think outside the box and are willing to help me learn the ins and outs of what being a producer, and furthermore a storyteller, is, it’s so amazing to have that kind of support.”
