Accountant – permanent Full-time

Salary range - $60,000 to $70,000

Farpoint Films Inc. is an award-winning film, television and digital media production company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We utilize our in-house production and post-production facilities to handcraft inspiring and creative storytelling. Farpoint Films Inc. has a unique culture and environment.

The Accountant will support a wide variety of non-union film production content and oversee the accounting on multiple in-house film productions. The chosen candidate will work closely with the line producer and production manager and be responsible for all production and associated cost reporting and accounting, managing production payroll, as well as various accounting duties within the department. The production accountant will be directly involved with obtaining financing, and all post-production responsibilities including preparing and overseeing the production audit/review engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the production manager to gather and maintain appropriate non-union paperwork, deal memos, contracts, and timesheets for processing.

  • Manage and review weekly production payroll.

  • Manage production petty cash.

  • Process and accurately record cast and crew and vendor payments on a weekly basis.

  • Ensure all paperwork submitted is approved and appropriately supported, paying attention to detail.

  • Process all related party transactions for corporate costs.

  • Review and oversee weekly bank reconciliations.

  • Prepare monthly GST returns.

  • Review and oversee monthly inter-company reconciliations.

  • Prepare weekly cost reports for the producers, production manager and bank reporting while in production, and monthly cost reports during post-production.

  • Monitor production budgets, analyze expenses and cost reports and forecast estimated final costs.

  • Review of all accounting records to ensure all costs have been appropriately recorded including the allocation of Manitoba labour.

  • Monitor cash flow of all productions on a daily and weekly basis, communication of financial requirements and preparation of loan draw paperwork.

  • Compile information for production company audits/reviews and oversee all aspects of the audit/review engagement.

  • Prepare ad hoc production company financial analysis as requested by management.

  • Prepare production company information for inclusion in the annual consolidated financial reporting.

  • 6+ years of accounting experience.

  • Experience with budgets and financial reporting.

  • A degree in accounting is preferred.

  • Designated or working towards a professional accounting designation (CPA) is preferred.

  • Knowledge of film production and film accounting is preferred.

  • Knowledge of Sage 50 software is preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite of programs.
